In the most recent session someone mentioned that MP3 is an example of how
    high interoperability has hurt everyone.

I see MP3 as having the potential to bust the recording industry out of an
old paradigm. The success of MP3 is a signal that a new way of doing
    things is in order.

Had MP3 not come along the kids who are swapping them would have found
another way. I hope that interoperability is something that everyone
starts to expect. The kids swapping music today will be entering the work
force over the next decade... Lets hope their ideas translate to the
    business world.
