There's no reason why we can't do on-the-fly conversion of mbox to XML for
version 1. It really is a performance issue. The contents of an e-mail
that was sent shouldn't change, so there doesn't seem to be any reason to
do the conversion on-the-fly. However, if someone can come up with one,
it won't be hard to support this.
