Here's the key point Marc Fleury (creator of JBoss) makes there:    (02)

"What we do is we put the stuff out. People use it if it's good. If people
don't use it; it's gone. So we have this instant feedback on the features.
It's a more efficient way of developing the spec -- by the implementation
-- rather than having two guys guess what's going to be good. "    (03)

How does he back that statement up?    (04)

"Let me put it this way: We [the JBoss developer community] have the de
facto standard implementation today. I don't know if you saw our numbers
for March and April, but we had 150,000 downloads in March. And for April
we were at around 180,000. BEA [the market leader by dollars] has about
2,000 downloads of their own product -- I don't know their exact numbers
these days.... We have the ears and the minds of the developers, so
whatever we put out there, I know it's going to fly "    (05)
